Chima Travels: Grand Teton & Yellowstone National Parks

The US National Parks are home to some of the country's most beautiful scenery. To experience the beauty, hiking, and wildlife firsthand, Lance and MaryLou traveled to Wyoming to explore the stunning Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks.

Q: Tell us about your itinerary.

A: We flew from Cleveland and upon arrival at the Jackson Hole, Wyoming Airport, saw bear spray for sale and immediately knew we were no longer in Ohio. We rented a car and stayed at a quaint hotel in Jackson Village for 7 nights.

Q: What were the dates of your trip? How was the weather during those dates?

A: We traveled the first week of October 2019. The morning temperatures were cool, afternoon temps were in the 60s with sun and blue sky, and many of the nights had snow flurries.

Grand Teton

Q: What were your favorite parts about the trip?

A: The ability to choose a different hiking trail every day, the spectacular scenery, observing wildlife (lynx, bear, elk, moose, bison, and bald eagles), great restaurants, and quaint shops in downtown Jackson.

Q: Any advice for someone wanting to visit Grand Teton or Yellowstone National Park?

A: Avoid their summer busy season. If you are planning on hiking, get in great shape before you go – some trails are strenuous and the high altitude makes those even more difficult.

Q: Is there anything you’d do differently if you went back? Or if you did go back, what are 1 or 2 additional things you might like to do?

A: We would have liked to take the Jackson Hole Aerial Tram ride to the top of the mountain but they were replacing the cables when we were there.

We stayed 7 nights in Jackson and drove to Yellowstone twice during the week to hike. Next time we would stay in Jackson 4 nights and 3 nights in Yellowstone Park. While the drive from Jackson to Yellowstone was full of magnificent scenery, the drive took a couple of hours each direction.

The 62 US National Parks are such a treasure. If you love connecting with nature in the outdoors, let us know! We can create the perfect custom vacation for you so you can experience the parks exactly the way you wish.
