The Thompson's EuroTrip

This past September mother/daughter duo Leanne and Emily took off for Europe. For their third trip to Europe they explored four countries where they had familial roots - Germany, Poland, Austria, and Switzerland.

Berlin Cathedral

Warsaw - Castle Square & Sigismund's Column

Q: What did you enjoy most about some of the places you visited?

A: Germany - We enjoyed the free walking tours in Berlin along with sites like the Berlin Wall and Checkpoint Charlie.

Poland - Most of our family is from Poland, so we really enjoyed the walking tours in Warsaw because they were a great way to see the city and learn more about the history, which we love. We also took a bus to Kraków for a day tour of the Auschwitz concentration camp, which was a sobering experience.

Austria - We took a train from Poland to Vienna. Salzburg was one of our favorite parts of the trip. We got to stay at the house where the Sound of Music was filmed and see the house where the Von Trapp family lived.

Switzerland - We took a bus to Lucerne and saw the Lion of Lucerne rock relief. Then we had the opportunity to take a gondola ride up to the Swiss Alps. Coming back down we took a ferry ride in Lake Lucerne. Our walking tour in Zurich was also really fun.

Vienna City Hall

Q: What was your favorite hotel throughout your trip?

A: Des Alpes in Lucerne, Switzerland. It was a beautiful hotel that was right on the River Reuss. (This hotel has a view of the Alps and it's only a two-minute walk from the famous Kapellbrücke wooden footbridge.)

Q: Any advice to travelers who want to visit those countries?

A: Using Uber was easier and nicer than using the taxis. We went in early September 2018 and the weather in all of the countries was beautiful.

Lake Lucerne

Q: How was your experience booking with Chima Travel?

A: We love the Chimas! We use Brian for every trip we plan. He always does a really good job. We've sent several different people to Chima Travel to plan their trips.
